Ultimate Bet Rewards Wrong Player December 23, 2008

Ultimate Bet was allegedly reported to have made a big goof up recently when the online poker site credited the wrong player with the money from the pot.

The players in question were "DoubleBaller" and Phil Hellmuth who were playing at a poker table at Ultimate bet. The number of the poker hand that was part of this mix up was 1162170993. The two players were competing with each other for the pot at a game of Limit Hold'em. The game had a $200/$400 buy in. Although "DoubleBaller" was the actual winner and should have been awarded the amount, the poker pot was instead credited to Phil Hellmuth, causing an outcry among poker fans paying attention to the game.

"DoubleBaller" was noted to have left the game soon after the hand, in an attempt to sort out the problem. The players discussed the error and eventually Ultimate Bet acknowledged its mistake and did its best to make things right. "DoubleBaller" was later sent part of the amount owed to him by the site and was promised to receive the rest of the sum at a later time.

The situation was publicly addressed by the casino site, Ultimate Bet, at their online blog: Ultimatebet.com blog. Paul Leggett made a statement on behalf of Ultimate Bet and posted this on the blog for all to see: "Earlier today we learned about a poker hand where our system paid out the losing player instead of the correct winning hand. The hand number is #1162170993. We are investigating this software malfunction as our absolute top priority. This is the first incident of this kind we have encountered. We are currently examining the poker system and the application logs in order to pinpoint the cause of this malfunction. Paul Leggett"
