Tropical Storm Fay making it hard to win August 20, 2008

It's bad enough whenever a tropical storm system hits land. Lives are disrupted and untold amounts of property damage and lives are lost making it difficult for any business to stay open. But what makes it even worse is when you are trying to host a Poker tournament or even play a simple Poker game.

This is precisely what casinos and patrons are facing in the Florida Keys with no end in sight for those living on the Florida coastline. Casinos in the area are trying to stay open despite the horrendous winds and rains brought by the storm, but are barely able at this point to keep their doors open and their spirits up.

Some residents have decided that a time out at the casinos is exactly what they need. They feel that instead of rather being stuck inside their homes waiting for something to happen that they would rather be at the Poker tables making something happen. Sounds like a pretty decent philosophy.

Recent casino openings, namely the Hard Rock Casino located in Seminole, Florida has made it difficult for smaller casinos along the coast and the keys to succeed. The weather has not helped their plight and they are looking for any way to stay open during such difficult, tumultuous times. Players living in the area, while understandably burdened by the storm, are asked to remember the casinos. Otherwise when the storms clears there might not be a casino left for them to go back to. Poker rooms have had a tough timing filling to capacity, while players struggle with less money to be passed around.

The casinos along the coast and the keys have experienced and survived many difficult episodes in their lives and will no doubt survive this one as well, Fay willing.
