Problems for Bodog? August 22, 2008

Bodog is looking at rough times ahead after much of their market has begun to fall off. They have lost a large section of their players from the United States due to the new anti-gambling laws. Affiliates with Bodog have started to see a decline in their revenue base with only the assurance that the rough times behind are merely an indication of the tough times to come.

Bodog, traditionally an industry leader, has seen its stock in the online Poker world plummet as new comers are taking many more players from the United States and converting them into real cash players. The most notable of Bodog's competition is Cake Poker who now is jumping ahead of Bodog in the amount of players coming in daily.

There are many reasons that are compounding Bodog's problems. No one issue is at the heart of the matter, but recent law changes have certainly not helped. Another issue is that of market saturation. Most of the people that would become affiliates to promote Bodog have already done so or have gone elsewhere to assist a competitor. Bodog would have to find an entirely new market base to continue the growth that has lasted for this many years. They aren't at the point of extinction, yet, but must re-evaluate and re-structure their organization to be ready for what's to come.

If anti-gambling laws in the United States change substantially with the new bill proposals scheduled to be debated, Bodog might be in the position to experience a new resurgence in activity and will be able to crawl out of their slump; but they must be poised to do so the minute the market turns or they might be left back out in the cold. Whatever happens to Bodog they have been an indicator as to how the market is for anyone in the online Poker business in general, not good.
