Probation violator plays in the World Series of Poker August 22, 2008

Scott Henry was placed on probation for committing a burglary, a crime in which he ultimately confessed. After being placed on probation and made to answer for his crime he took up online Poker as a means to pass the time until he was off of probation. The problem was he was given a seat by an online casino to travel to Las Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker, a great honor for any player that has ever played the game.

It might be even more hilarious had he actually won and he might have had enough money to have never returned home. But that wasn't in the cards for Henry who was apprehended and made to again stand trial in fleeing authorities to play the game that he so loved.

There are many players who have said that they would give anything for one shot to play in the World Series of Poker. Generally these same players would not considering giving up a substantial portion of their lives, but Henry was not such a man. He knew that his one shot to play in the grand championships of his chosen sport was fleeting and he took it. For that he shouldn't be judged too harshly.

However, in Recorder Abbot's own words, there is no law for “stupidity” and Henry was not facing a very substantial amount of jail time for missing his court appointed work order. His foray into the world of professional gambling ended with his busting out of the tournament and returning to his homeland to face three months in jail. Whatever Poker experience he gleaned from playing in the most prestigious Poker event in the world will have to wait until his release.
