Giving Back: Dennis Phillips to donate winnings August 20, 2008

Even before the World Series of Poker finals have even begun Dennis Phillips, a finalist in the largest Poker series in the world, has agreed to donate some of his winnings to a very worthwhile charity.

Pledging to give one percent of his winnings to the Prevent Cancer Foundation Dennis Phillips has etched his name in the hearts of Cancer victims and survivors everywhere. Contributing to this charity is just one way that Phillips has involved himself with helping others and also assists with Multiple Sclerosis charities. He truly is someone that gives a lot back to his community. One percent of Phillips' projected winnings will nearly be $200,000.

While many players are simply happy to make a lot of money and move on Phillips is a shining example of what it truly means to be a winner. It's true anyone that has been affected by Cancer has got to be rooting for Phillips come November.

The Bad Beat on Cancer has been working with the World Series of Poker since its inception and they have asked people in the Poker world to give one percent of their winnings to the foundation. Of course, the donation is tax deductible making the donation to the foundation a win for everyone.

Poker tournament players and officials are no strangers to helping with charities. Pokerstars has given generously in the past helping Hemophilia foundations and looking to assist wherever they have been able to.

Many of these players have come to understand how difficult that it can be living with a disease like Cancer and realize that Poker is in many ways like life. It is truly a gamble and any edge you can get at the table, and in life, is well worth all they can give.
