Tough times have hit everyone in virtually every industry fairly hard. An industry that relies on people's disposable income is going to be hit harder than others. This is just such the case in Nevada's casinos. Las Vegas and Reno casinoss, along with smaller areas in this gambling state, have posted losses for the month of June.
In fact they've posted a 1.9% loss in revenues for the month of June. The United States is experiencing a recession, as many people claim, and this affects the amount of money that players are willing to generally spend on entertainment. What has helped the industry, however, is that during times of economic need casinos have remained a very strong producer, despite the loss of income for their players.
Gas prices have driven the price of many essential items up and out of the reach of many people who visit Nevada's casinos. What casino operators have discovered is even though essential items go up people still have the need to enjoy themselves and get away from their run around lives for awhile. There is no better way to do this than to spend some time playing the games that they love.
Another reason people frequent the casinos, and the casino industry isn't harder hit than it is, is because people know that there is a lot of money to be made. It isn't seen as a waste of money because there is the ever present opportunity to make much, much more money than is spent on the trip to the casino.
While it's true that the casino industry has experienced a loss of 1.9% during what is traditionally one of the busiest months of the year, they are still sitting pretty on a sound investment due to the diligence of the players that will play rain or shine.
